This article briefly describes hardball in English language.

Hardball is a Russian name for airsoft using lead bullets of 4.5mm (.177) caliber. Limit for lead bullets is 180m/s (590fps) (blunt headed only) and for steel BB rounds is 160m/s (525fps). It gives snipers the possibility to shoot a head within the distance of 80m (260ft), a body - 90m (295ft), some guys can do it within 100m (330ft) range. A rifle guy can shoot a body-target within approx 60m (200ft). I'm doing that quite often. Eye gear is a paintball mask of any kind. But big breathing holes need to be covered with something to avoid injury.

[править] Hardball is the name of quite realistic military game

The game was invented in Russia in the beginning of third millennium.

Guys shoot each other using 4.5mm (.177) caliber pneumatic guns. The thirst your thought is they are crazy! it's bloody dangerous! Nope they are not crazy and it's less dangerous than World spread Airsoft game. You do not believe me? Okay. Let me prove my words.

[править] How dangerous is it?

Let's measure the value of danger using world wide spread well known military game Airsoft.

  1. The level of protection.
    1. In hardball you have to protect each inch of skin with clothes. It's the law.
    2. In airsoft you have to protect eyes only. As the result face skin is totally opened for bullets for most players.
  2. The maximum allowed bullet speed.
    1. In Ukrainian hardball you are restricted to shoot using 180m/s (590fps) guns. No more.
    2. In Ukrainian airsoft you are restricted to shoot using 240m/s (790fps) guns. No more. There is danger to get such a bullet in your face.
  3. We collected the statistics on how often players get bloody wounds.
    1. The statistics was collected by guys who play both hardball and airsoft.
    2. The statistics says: bloody wounds appear in airsoft more often than in hardball.

[править] Why hardball is better?

[править] Shooting distance

In airsoft you are limited to 50 meters (165ft) - you can't hit somebody's head with a single bullet. You have to send ten or twenty.

Same happen in paintball. You are limited to 25 meters (80ft) - you can't hit somebody's head with a single bullet. You have to send several.

In hardball you are capable to shoot up to 90 meters (295ft) - you can hit somebody's head with a single bullet. That's what we call sniper work.

[править] Pain

On my opinion the hardball is less painful. In paintball you get huge bruises all over the body. In airsoft the bruises are less possible, but the bloody wounds are highly possible.

In hardball you get small bruises each time you got hit from close (<10m, or <30ft) distances. The close distance shots are rarely possible, only while playing at indoor locations.

[править] Psychological aspect

Still people are afraid to get a bullet hit. This makes them hide. Hide as much as possible. There are no Commando-like attacks. The tactics became really important for everybody to survive.

[править] Sniping aspect

An average person can became really dangerous for his enemies if he got a sniper rifle. Without any practice he can hit enemy head on 70 meters (230ft). Good sniper can do it on 90 meters (295ft). Best sniper can do it on 100 meters (330ft).

First 'death' of a newbie guy always made by sniper. After that everybody try to hide from sniper shots. This aspect makes game very realistic!

[править] Number of bullets

All pneumatic weapons have 30 bullets maximum. The only exception is brand new Blackbird IZH-Baikal.

You have no possibility to shoot 10 bullets at the time. You have to save ammo. Even if you have additional clips you still have to change them. You have to count number of shots. You have to learn dealing with your gun as quick as possible. All these trifles makes the game even more realistic.

[править] Price!

The pneumatic guns are more cheap comparing to airsoft and paintball. Several times cheaper.

In Ukraine you can fully equip a sniper guy for $300USD. Same time you have to pay up to $1000 to fully equip a paintball sportsman.

[править] Disadvantages

  1. You have to be as protected as an average paintball guy. No any inch of the body skin should be opened.
  2. The game is not widely spread. You have to search for like-minded guys.
  3. Breaking the safety rules may lead to bloody wounds and even more serious injuries than in similar games. Bullet can stuck deep in your body in that case. This introduces the importance obligatory of strict forwarding the safety rules.
  4. The very few weapon items can be used 'as is'. Most of the rifles require different kinds of upgrade.
  5. No special places for indoor play and training ground.
  6. Not much weapons are capable to shoot on lower then 5o (40Fo) temperatures.
